We’ve got some drama within the Fast and Furious cast. Right now that drama seems to concern Tyrese Gibson wanting to get in touch with Dwayne Johnson to talk about the possible delay of Fast 9 to make a Hobbs spinoff movie. Entertainment Weekly managed to find screenshots of the social media drama and have provided some context for the comments. Some of the comments have been deleted but, for some reason, Gibson decided the best way to handle this was to take it to Instagram. Here’s the first comment:
“If you move forward with that #Hobbs Movie you will have purposely ignored the heart to heart moment we had in my sprinter,” Gibson wrote. “I don’t wanna hear from you until you remember what we talked about. I’m on your timeline cause you’re not responding to my text messages – #FastFamily is just that a family…….. We don’t fly solo.”

Interesting, but there was more. The next comment Gibson made is barely a comment — it’s more like a long-form essay on social media. On Tuesday, Gibson left another comment:
“I have never and will never have a problem with this major movie star he’s my brother,” wrote Gibson, who didn’t help his case by admitting he didn’t like Baywatch. “I’m simply trying to reach him cause he won’t call me back about this solo #HobbsMovie I want you to shoot it just not right now cause the #Fast9 release date has already been announced and we can’t let our loyal fans #FastFamily or our loyal fast and furious FANS down on any level from pushing the date…….. Didn’t you see how HUGE #Fast8 was? It’s because we announced and KEPT our release date bro.”
He goes on to say that he doesn’t go public with behind-the-scenes problems, possibly referring to the fact that Johnson called some of his Fast and Furious co-stars “candy asses”.
“I never ever go public with private family issue. We do this on behalf of the families, the cast, the crew member who have been down and loyal to us for 15 years…… Everyone matters…. When we shoot we all eat, we we show up as a FAMILY display our love, our funny stuff, our story lines and HEARTS in every frame…… Me and the cast laugh because it seems like #Fast is like a HOLIDAY at this point….. You [can’t] push the release date of a holiday bro.”
That’s certainly an interesting way to look at a movie franchise. Gibson decides to end his rant by saying that it’s not at all a rant, because of course it isn’t.
“This is not a #Rant I’m no Rock #Hater and I don’t want this #Life I love my own… I’m doing this for the #FastFamily I’m loyal and I apologize for being loyal but dammit I am.”

Gibson does say that “once you hit me back I will delete every post,” and since the posts are gone, we can assume that Gibson has heard from Johnson. However, this post is still on Gibson’s Instagram, so maybe not in the way they wanted.

EW reached out to Gibson and Johnson’s agents for comment, but they didn’t get back. Fast and the Furious 9 currently has a release date of April 19th, 2019.
